I've been offered these fenders - opinions?

They are in primer, there are a few wormy holes in the lower parts and may be some small dents. They are from a 67 GT.
I'm looking at them for my MGC GT.
He can bring them to me on Saturday, (if I want them) and he is asking me what I would offer for them and a replacement hatch window. Your opinions please:

Well, lower patch panels are about $30 each give or take a few bucks &, unless you can do the bodywork yourself, there's $50 or more per fender just in straightening dents....fenders like that - if I sold them - I'd sell for $75-$100 apiece, if somebody wanted them...I don't usually sell fenders like that though because of the rust...I usually keep & repair them for one of my projects.

Measure the distance from the inner odge of the fender (where the grill sits) to the edge of the turn signal assembly cutout. Depending on what part of the year that fender is from, it could be a match or it could be off a bit. It doesn't matter, it's just a cosmetic thing that they changed for '68.

I'm always leery of buying parts in primer. Even without considering the rust there are bound to be wrinkles and waves that won't show up until they are shiny. If your alternative is nothing or "new", they are better than nothing but should be inexpensive! Bob

Thanks, I have decided to keep looking.
I may offer him something for the glass, but it's not the one with the heating element in it so...

I've just started parting out a 72 BGT that has the rear defroster glass if you are looking for one. Also has air conditioning though I don't know if everything is there for it. compressor and mount, dryer, and dash vents for sure, don't know about pullys. PM if interested.

Hi Rick,

If it helps any, I'm parting out my '71BGT that was rear-ended in July. I've never un-painted the front fenders but they look pretty good to me. If you or someone else on the forum can give me some tips on evaluating them, maybe we can work deal. I'll go easy on you. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I'm in the San Fernando Valley, North of Los Angeles, off the 101.

If you want, you can PM me your number and I can call you tomorrow or Friday.

Oh yes, I have a factory tinted hatch window too. The truck bumper just missed it!

Thanks for the offers guys!
I'm up here about 30 miles east of Seattle.
Is there an inexpensive way of shipping these large items?

Bloody good question! I'll as k the transportation guy here at work.

Adam

Bus.

The consensus at work was "bubble wrap the heck out of each one and send them on their way!" He can get me shipping prices once I have measurements. He may be able to find a deal - he sure did last time I needed to ship a heavy item!

As for Greyhound, I used their online utility and, depending on exact weight and longest dimension (after packaging), it will cost between $50 and $70 to ship each one to Seattle. That includes their "fuel surcharge of 6.75%)

If that's too much, I understand. However, if that does work for you, I'll do a closer exam, measure the length and get some pictures this weekend. I sure would hate to send them to you and have you find a nasty surprise!

Adam

If bubble wraped will they not stack for shipment? And of course still stay within the size and weight limits.

Yes, I wonder that too about the stacking?

Adam, yes please take a couple pictures.
You can email them to me if you like,

FEDEX Ground...bubble wrap the heck out of them & ship!

True, I sent something pretty big through FedEx ground once recently and it only cost me about $40.

Is there a way of sending so they don't deliver to your home but instead you pick up at the FedEx facility? It's just around the corner from where I work. I would think they would charge even less that way.
Watch out about their claims department though, you really need to plaster an item with FRAGILE warnings otherwise they feel free to drop it off the truck, cause obvious damage and not pay. After being burned once I'll be way more cautious in the future.

Rick,
8 pics are enroute to this email address. Please confirm that they came through.

Thanks! Adam

If you are looking at panels or a car and are curious about how straight things are and are unable to tell by rubbing your bare hand along the metal, try using an old t shirt.
Just place one layer between the panel and your hand and you will be amazed at how much better your sense of feel becomes.
