Its starrting to stay light out a little longer.

as soon as I got home last night I quickly turned a few screws loose on in the engine bay. to start taking the many wires and hoses and cables out of there. I got the heater core out. I wish I had done that before the hammer incedent. but I was only able to get one screw out of the box. was it common practice for the manufacture to strip the head of that screw out? one was ok, but the others just as well be countersunk on top. I don't have ready access to an air chisel or a dremel (but I should add dremel to the list) but what do you all recommend? I think I may be able to try my hand at sloting the top and using a flathead

I do not know about that screw in particular, but many of the screw heads are pozi-drive (NOT phillips). You will continue to have problems if you do not get the correct pozidrive bits.

And even then they are a bear in some cases. Sometimes you can get a vice grips on them, other times drill the head off then use vice grips.

I tried the vice grips, but there just isn't enough room to even turn it. I guess a nice chisel and hammer my be my only recourse.

No no, drill the head off, remove the heater then use the vice grips.
