Well its been almost 2 years but the conversion to dual 1.5 HS's on my "77 Midget is complete and she breathed to life Sunday afternoon. I spent most of the day looking for leaks, tightening and adjusting.

I have a question for folks with the dual HS4 setup, they just don't seem to want to return to idle. I re-bushed and replaced the throttle shafts on a lathe and honed them correctly during the rebuild. I added another spring on the cable and I am wondering if I need another from the exhaust manifold to the linkage between the carbs? I took a bunch of photos of a Midget 1500 with the HS4's but I don't see any springs there.

I plan on driving her over to the Texas All British Car Day at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock this Sunday IF I can get her inspected and tagged!

That is one nice looking engine bay there!

Will she come back down to idle when you move the throttle shaft manually?

>That is one nice looking engine bay there!

Thanks, it sure seems like it took forever to get here.

Yes, when I push them down. I oiled shafts a bit and it seemed to loosen them up a bit for a short time. I have only put about 4 miles on our dead end street.

Are you sure the cable isn't binding?

Ahh, had the same prob with my H1s. Solution was to polish the throtle shafts really well so the choke would not stick open just that little bit.

Not sure if that is your prob or not. See if the chokes can be pushed up at the throttle shaft at all. Prob only one that is sticking if at all.

Let me know, I love being right, LOL.

The cable is running pretty free, I'll give it a shot of cable lube form my dirt bike days. When I rebuilt the carbs I reamed and then polished the shafts with some oil applied. I could spin them easily before I assembled them.

But the chokes... I need to take a close look at them, also one of the guys at work said that since I haven't finished getting the mixture and settings correct I shouldn't be to "hung up" on the linkage yet, he kills me.

The saga continues this weekend.

Hey CR5,

I just had a similar problem on a very different set up. Mine turned out to be a binding choke mechanism.

I am in Austin, too. And if I can pull myself away from work, I will see you at the ABCD. Will you be showing your car?

C5R / Morris - I'm in Austin now and was planning on going to the show on Sunday - look for the green Midget with MA tags.

I haven't got the title or tags/inspection .... yet.

I hope to have her there!

Hey Chris:
Good to see you back - moved to Austin I see. New job or just a change of life (or both?).
Roy

No job and a change of life. Keeps things interesting!

Chris:

Very nice engine bay! We just bought a place in the Austin area and we'll be moving down in the next several months from the Dallas area. Another Spridget for the Hill Country.

YAHOOOOOO Last night I looked over the linkage and the fast idle cam screw was way to far out, (you were right Jack!) so idle issue fixed! I'm running ABT needles and ended up at 14 flats. Stock exhaust manifold, two blown out glass packs and no cat. You can see the filters above. I will get the inspection done tomorrow and then the tags.

My daughter has called dibs on the first ride to school next Monday! My wife's comment was, "boy its a bit louder than I remember and you can hear the electric fan as your coming up the street.

Durn I just love being right.

Yheee Hawwww.

Now if I could just solve my own probs so easy. Would you beleive it took me a year to figure that out along with the fix that of course took 30 min.
