My troubles last weekend have been rectified. Yes, I wired the distributor wrong(Duh!)and a weak starter kept me from firing it last weekend.

A properly wired distributor and a gear reduction starter were added last night and at approximately 9PM last night my Bugeye breathed new life after 30 some odd years of neglect. Great oil pressure and the temp rose and stopped right where it should. Yay!

I do have some problems to work through such as a leaking rear carb, tuning the carbs, proper timing of the engine and re-bleeding the clutch hydraulics. (I couldn't get the clutch to disengage.)

My guess is that I will need a proper professional rebuild of the carbs, but I will deal with that later.

I may have found this site late in my project, but lurking and reading the posts of many of you who are way more knowledgeable than me has been a great asset. Thanks!

Congrats!!!.. its a really good feeling, isn't it?

And another lives, well done.

Thanks guys - this really is one of those exciting moments to know I have done at least something right on this project. Many things left to do and so little time!

Hap, I'll definitely be contacting you sometime soon - SUs were alien to me until I started this project. I basically cleaned and reassembled the carbs with new floats and needle valves. They will need some attention.

Woohoo!

Can't wait to hear that noise myself, and mine's only been off the road for a few months.

And if that clutch is frozen (pressure plate works but the clutch dish is stuck to the flywheel due to all the years of sitting) do the "Break-free" stuff that is somewhere on the forum before you panic or pull the engine.

The clutch issue was operator error (go figure!). It's a brand new clutch with a Rivergate 5 speed conversion. I had the rod at the slave cylinder adjusted incorrectly.

Now that that's adjusted and I can put it in gear fine; HOWEVER, the pedal is very stiff. I am using Rivergate's 7/8" aftermarket slave cylinder with a stock Bugeye master cylinder. I may need to adjust the rod a little better at the slave, but the effort needed to push the clutch pedal seems way too much. More tinkering to follow.
