Well, it's been 13 months since I've heard the ROAR of my 1500 Midget. Until this past weekend that is.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Managed to actually get her started for the first time since the rebuild. She fired right up (well, pretty much so)!!! 65 psi oil pressure at 2000 rpm... Now, this is not to say I don't have some bugs to work out.
First, she's running a little rough and seems down on power. I'm thinking maybe the rocker arms aren't adjusted right, as I put a hotter cam into the motor, but set the rockers to stock specs. Any thoughts anyone?
Second, she won't idle, nor start without pumping the heck out of the gas pedal. No, I haven't rebuilt the carb, yet, and I'm sure this is going to be needed.
The biggest issue right now is the coolant leak from the heater core shutoff valve. I know they don't make the valves anymore, but I'm thinking they are rebuildable as they show gaskets for them in the moss catalog. Does anyone know for sure?
Another Question, while running it for about 5 minutes, the valve cover is HOT, really too hot to hold your hand on for any length of time. Engine temp was still around 140. Is this normal for the head/valve cover to get this hot? The engine hasn't been properly timed yet, and I know if the carb is lean it'll run hotter, but that hot? I don't remember.
