After being out of my Sprite for 37 years my engine ran for the first time tonight. Am I ever pumped. I replaced the original starter with the new one from Autozone and it did absolutely nothing. It won't even turn when connected directly to the battery and it is on the ground. My buddy poked his finger into the old one and thought that he felt a brush inside move. When I put it back in the engine spun vigorously. We poured some gasoline into the tank and tried to start the engine. My new Facet electric pump clicked and clicked and never would shut off. Eventually we got some gas into the carb fuel bowls and with the help of a little starting fluid it ran for the first time. Love that roar!!Oil pressure is right up there and I'm very glad of that. Tomorrow I'll have to crawl under the car and see if the fuel pump is getting gas from the tank or if something is plugged up. There is a filter right at the pump and I'll replace it and see if that makes a difference. The gas tank is brand new and so are all the fuel lines.

Right now the car is at my buddy's house where it has been since October. He recently finished painting it. I wish he didn't live 50 miles from where I live. I have to pay turnpike tolls to get to his place but at least the end is near and Little Mo will soon be roaring down the road.

fantastic! (do we have pictures?)

WTG....cool that you have owned the Sprite for so long!
I second the call for pics!

Fantastic! There's nothing like hearing a motor run for the first time in a long time. Well done!

I have a pictorial history of my restoration on my webshots page. Last night we installed the front bumper but that is the only appearance change since the pictures I took last week that is part of my webshots. I'm having an absolute blast.
