that the fuel pump fittings are 5/16 now if I can just find a 5/16 to a 1/4 inch. I know, I know I can get them from Moss with the short stubs of pipe on them, but it is more fun this way.

If you use rubber fuel line you can get 1/4" hose bib fittings with the correct thread to fit direct to the fuel pump.
 
Oh cool, my hardware had non of them. That is really what I was looking for.

Plan to use hose from pump to line then in rear line to filter and filter to tank line. From pump to carbs as well.
 
Jack, keep me posted on what you do and end up buying. I am at EXACTLY the same point--trying to figure out 5/16 vs. 1/4 fuel lines issues...and I think I too need an adaptor btw the two.

Jack,
I'd put the fuel filter near the carbs after the pump.
Easier to change out and check out. MY SU fuel pump is on the inner fender under the hood.
