Well after installing my carb a week or so ago I realized that the air leak on the throttle shaft was much too serious to ignore and had to send it out. I sent it to Jeff over at Paltech to bench test it and replace shaft and bushings. I never expected what I got back. He micro polished everything. This carb absolutally looks like new and after some intial adjustments my car is running great! Such a fantastic early xmas gift! Cant wait to put it on the ground and see what it can do.

Wow Scott - that really does look great!
Which carb is that? (I can't tell by just looking)

Thats an HS4 that I got off a member right here some time ago. Notice the custom modified steelings and hellings filter that I crossed with an edlebrok I had to make for the clearance issues. Works tho! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

So what went into your choice there?
Why one instead of two? Why the HS4 versus the HS6?

And I think it's important to note that the carb is on the correct side /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif right Rick? Morris? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hey Nial is that 08 schedual up yet? I suppose I ll check the site. My wifes having a baby in July so I probably wont make it out too much this year but definatally a few times I hope! I was trying to filter threw all the hub bub about firts time time trial-ers and requirements. Haven't made sense of what I need to plan for yet.

You know, I recall that you said you guys were having a baby in another post. And I forgot to say something. So...

Congrats!

We're sort of re-living this "new baby" thing since my older daughter will be delivering our first grandchild in late January. It's a first for my son-in-law's family too, so all are excited.

But back to the more mundane parts of life...

Here's the unofficial schedule that I am working on right now. I've talked to all the track management in the last two weeks, so this is pretty firm. We'll post it on the EMRA site very soon...race schools can be arranged at any of them. Still working on what we'll do at some of these venues.

Shenandoah- April 19-20 (Sprints and maybe TT)
Pocono South- May 3-4
BeaveRun- Jun 7-8 (Sprints and maybe enduro)
Pocono- North June 26
NJMP- July 11-13 (HPDE, TT, Sprint and Enduro)
Pocono East- Aug 12
Pocono North- Aug 30-31 (Sprints, enduro and TT)
Watkins Glen- Oct 18-19(with VRG rungroup)
Lime Rock-Oct 25 (full day HPDE and Time Trial)
Summit Point- Nov 15-16 (Sprints, Enduro and maybe TT)

JP, yes that is the "Right" side. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

It's on the correct side if you like a motor that can breathe and has a little torque /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

(and you like replacing bearings on a bi-annual basis /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif )

My prediction: it gonna go like stink. Possibly faster than striped ape or a turpentined cat. Equivalent in speed to a bat exiting heck.

If it goes as good as it looks you in business.

What needle are you running in the single HS4, solid needle or biased needle? After you get a little more time on the engine, I highly recommend you take the car to a chassis dyno, and check the air-fuel ratio, shoot for something around 13 at WOT. This is much cheaper and easier than trying to get this accomplished at the track, plus it great knowing when you come off the trialer, you're ready to roll.

Hap, thats my biggest problem, tuning for the best fuel ratio. Just dont know enough to pin point using spark plug tests and what not. I have an ABC needle in it now and I got it to idle good and rev's nice but I need to get my wheels on it and put it on the ground so I can test drive it. Good news is its got plates and lights so I can do some testing and tuning on the road. Theres's so many needle choices that I actually thought of intsalling a air/fuel ratio gauge to tune, but again I dont know how well that works. Fot the time being I have to warm the car up on choke (About 10 min) to get it to idle on its own, But it seems to run almost too rich on choke. ie: smoking.. makes itr hard to do a spark plug test cause I know its rich on choke. I was going to warm it up later today and use the lift pin test to try and find its leanest idle setting than do some test drives with it later this week. Any suggestions please feel free.

Problem with that kit is it's not a "wideband" O2 kit. It can only accurately tell you if you are making 14.7:1 AFR. 14.7 won't do you much good in a race car. As Hap says, you will make best power around 13:1. A wideband sensor, like the LC-1, can very accurately tell you if you're making 13:1 or any other AFR you choose to run.

That was my question. I believe these will range from 12:1 to 17:1. They all seem to be the same 1 volt setups, I even seen some websites that show you how to make your own, personally I like to make some things but a $30 gauge. just dont see the point
