that have Britmobiles!!!
Yesterday, I called a friend that I worked with years
ago. Heard he was going into 'forced' retirement. After
chatting for a while, he asked if I was still into Britmobiles.

He is in the process of selling his house, and a couple
of weeks ago, he had his *near mint* '79 MGB hauled off
to the junkyard. Didn't want to fool around trying to
sell it I guess.

Argh!!!!

So, did you find it at the junkyard yet? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kind of similar story:
I work with a guy who had a '79 MGB he bought new. Drives if to work on all nice days. The car is immaculate. He is a music teacher and is not really a car nut...I'm not sure why he really likes the MG. I've never seen the top down.
There's also 6 Miatas at work (including mine) and he had told me that he likes Miatas. I told him that if he ever wanted to sell the MG, to let me know.
A month ago I see a new Miata in "his" space and my heart sunk. When I saw him I asked about the MGB.
He told me, "Yes I decided to switch to the Miata since it has a great sound system and nice air conditioning".
I asked, "Where's the MG?".
He tells me, "Oh, I donated it to the one of those charities that will take away your car and give you a tax writeoff...I didn't want so sell it to anyone I knew since it was old and might start to give problems".
ARRRGH!!

*Note* Although I am sure that some of the charities that take away cars are OK, many of them have huge overhead. I looked up the outfit that the MGB above went to, and they consume about 50% of their donations in "overhead". Also, the tax writeoff is not that great for most folks. He would have been much better off to sell the car (to me!) and give half the money to a regular charity.
Oh well...
