Now my 74 Midget, while running perfectly last night, has decided to start hesitating and finally started backfiring and popping. Replaced primary igntion system last weekend. Think it's fuel pump or carbs? Someday I won't be a novice anymore.

Lets see, you replace the ignition system last weekend, and now you have problems. Lets tear the carbs down and replace the fuel pump. Just kidding(I have used this logic before, so no offense). If everything was ok before, might check and see if the dizzy bolt is tight and maybe the timing has changed. Otherwise, look at what you have done and go from there.

I was going to check the points. I just like a little background before I tear into something. Thanks

What's a dizzy bolt?

The one on the clamp that holds the dizzy in place. Under the dizzy between it and the block.

Okay, what is a dizzy? Is it the distributor? Com'on guys. I am a novice!

Dizzy = Distributor

A stro/mfordeler (howz he do that?) eh? I like that! Boy am I gonna confuse some people with that!!

Resolved. Bad condensor. Runs like a top!

Was it new?
Worst experience (non crash related category) I ever had with an MG was due to a bad but new condenser. I had spent months rebuilding my C engine, tried to start but it wouldn't. After 3 days of tearing my hair out I swapped the old condenser back in & it started right up!
