I've had a can of Old Speckled Hen in the trunk for years.
Said I'd only ever open if I was waiting for a tow truck.
It was warm, flat, utterly disgusting but I drank it.

Fill in the details...

the mental picture is not quite complete.

Pulled out of the driveway, and the tach and fuel gauge went south.
No problem, figured it was a fuse.
Couple of seconds later, the whole car dies, not even the red alternator light came on.
I have a sneaky feeling it might be something electrical....
I'm not worried, just dragged it back in the garage and went to brush my teeth.
My first breakdown, that's all. It could have a been worse occasion for that beer; quite pleased that I've had 3 years of driving and thrashing with nothing wrong up until this point.

That stuff is nasty.

Personally, I find it nasty when it is "fresh".

Last year, as i was driving to Vancouver, I tried to use the horn. DEAD. Ok, so when i filled up with gas i checked the fuse (the horn is the only thing on the unswitched fuse) and it seemed ok.. changed fuses anyway, still no horn.... ok, gonna check it when i get to my destination.. so back on the freeway, the tach dies,.. then no turn signals, i think.. i'm just gonna keep driving until i get where i'm going, THEN i'll try to diagnose things. Upon arrival I open the hood and look at the fuse block. When i tried to check the one fuse, i must have knocked the other fuse loose cause its canted in the holder and just making contact. enough to run the car, but not enough current for anything else. .. so, either its your fuse blown or wire has pulled loose from the connector at or near the fuse block, or off the ignition switch, whatever you have disturbed last. .. ..

when i got back home, i got everything ready to do a continuity check on the horn circuit. a long piece of wire and a volt, ohm meter, pulled the grill and found the wire pulled out of the bullet connector.

Since I put that fat anti-roll bar on, the ride has been a lot stiffer and a lot less forgiving, so I reckon something squeezed loose.
LIKE THE GROUND CABLE FROM THE BATTERY TO THE FIREWALL!!!!

Oops :wall: luckily I have never had anything like that happen

Now Barry learns that "race car" strategy differs from that of the street car. Vibration becomes a BIG concern.

Be happy it didn't fry the throttle/choke cables hunting a good ground. That gets messy.
