is this right?

NO!

& yes on antenna location - should be on the passenger side.

Wow, that's bizarre... Why would someone go to all the trouble of changing one end, but not the other?!? I can't believe this would be an "odds and ends" car from the changover to rubber bumpers...

I was just looking at the listing again, and read this, a question someone asked the seller

"FYI - you have a rather special vehicle there. It is almost the very last 1974 made. as you may know, that is the last year with chrome bumpers, round wheel arches, and the 1275 engine. yours has the rubber front, though. I had heard of only a couple made like this when the factory ran out of chrome front bumpers in late 74. it is a truly rare vintage you have. I do not necessarily agree with the Chevy Vega rims being added, but the rest of the car seems excellent. The VIN tells the story that it is almost the last (less than 100 more made) at the Abingdon factory, which also explains the extra hoses and connections on the engine to help it meet smog requirements. i would contact the MG club in England and ask them about it. you may have a collector's item on your hands. I'm not a true expert, but you may want to reconsider the sale, if you can. at least until you find out what you have (special or ordinary). Good Luck!"

can that be true?

Antenna is exactly the same as on my 1979. I have never seen a bumper setup like you have. You have a 74, but someone stuck a RB on the front. True, the changeover from chrome to RB occured during 1974, but I doubt mixing the bumpers happened at the factory.

I've got a template from the factory for installing an antenna on a Midget on the passenger side.

It's got the Sabrina rubber blocks on the rear bumpers. I wonder where the fellow sourced his information about the hybrid bumpered cars?

"heard of"....friend of a friend of a friend of a friend probably.

It all *looks* very clean... just weird. RWA, half-chrome, half-rubber?

Rare or not, that rubber bumper would be the first thing to go if it ever fell into my clutches!

As to the antenna location... I would assume that the UK cars had the antenna on the left? If it's got UK fenders, that might explain the antenna.

It's a "FrankenMidget"

The rubber bumper cars have the frame extensions out of the front grill that hold the rubber bumper.... They also have the higher ride height.

If it's really a 74, then how did they attach that rubber bumper?

If I bid on it and win, will the holy sprite convoy haul it west for me?

what's a UK fender? What's the difference between a UK and US fender?

When the requirements started in the US to standardize bumper height, the factory raised the height of the turn signal to make clearance for the raised bumper. I don't know if they raised 'em in the UK or not, but I have seen more than one Spridget with mismatched front fenders. In fact the winning (was it a '73?) car in one class at LoTO was so outfitted, whether from the factory (unlikely) or from restoration. It can be very hard to pick up. One looks at these cars and they seem fine, but once in while something appears "off".
