GT6 Is this really a GT6s seat?

Ok, this was the only interior I found in my car when I got it. I assumed it was part of the mythical useless backseat. Was never sure if it was the bottom or top. I cleaned it up, and tried to fit it in, but it wont fit. (it was laying longways hood to hatch) Its about an inch or two too big. Im pretty sure it didnt come with the car because its a mk1. If its not a gt6 part, then what is it? Is it even for a triumph? This car was found in a warehouse with a bunch of other british cars, so I dont know. I think it was in the process of being restored before the whole fleet got sold off.

My MK1 had a flat shelf that started behind the seats and went all the way back. As I remember there was a light-weight metal frame support in the front a few inches behind the seat backs. When the seats were tilted forward there was access to the little "cubbies" under the flat panel.
Probably should get verification, it has been a lot of years since I had the car.

TR_Jim might be able to help. He has a nice MK1.

That's 1 nice car. Interesting with a body off resto you would think he would fix the e brake

Like I said, you are missing the bracing that would have been nearest the seats. It would have been above where the seat well ends and that post that is leaning may have been the center support. The front panel would have fastened to the front of the cross piece over the diffy and to the front cross piece. The rear "floor" would have been at least two pieces, one in front and one in back. Although I do seem to remember that the rear was split to access the spare wheel well.

Something that points to your GT6 not having the jump seat fitted, is the presence of the bracket with the peeling vinyl mounted to the driveshaft tunnel (although it's either been bent forward or has been installed upside down). That's the center support bracket that Mk1's had for the luggage floor (in TR Jim's photos it's not shown and is mentioned as having been eliminated on later models).

I was going to post a question as to whether the lack of originality of the paint and trim colors would affect the bidding on this car currently on ebay. I guess my question has been answered!

I had one of the very early MK1's. #247 or 9 I believe. In early 1968 when I met Shirley and she thought it was ugly, that is until she rode in it and started driving it. We married later that year and a few years later purchased a farm. When we were moving the 100 miles to the farm one trip was made in the GT6. Shirley, myself and our two sons made the trip. The boys, then 2 and 6, lay on the rear deck for the trip. Imagine doing that today with no seats let alone no safety seats.
In 1976 I was spending much of my time on tractors. Since the GT6 couldn't pull a plow or haul many groceries it got sold that year, for $300 and still in nearly perfect condition.

Current listing on ebay...should make gt6 fans happy.

Ive never seen a GT6 bid that high (and theres still 6 days left) Then again, not many Mk1 are auctioned. Im surprised it didnt make reserve yet. I wonder how much this car will end at. I know he wants $15k at least, but Ive never seen one sell for that. Are these going up in value? I know once I start driving mine, everyone in my town will want one.

I noticed that too, and figured thats what its for. I tried removing it, but the original paint has made it impossible for me to turn the nut. I guess I could just hammer it back into place.

In addition to the seat, there was a parcel shelf thingy that I assumed was the backing of the seat because it was curved over and seemed to fit the wheel well. Later I realized it had to be the luggage shelf because it had snaps, screw holes, and the edge had vinyl trim. It was chipped, torn, and bend into a 180 degree half circle. I havent thrown it out yet. Im guessing I can use it as a template.

And that might just be the only reason such a car might sell for upwards of $15k. Otherwise, it appears to me to bne a classic case of "Holy Priority Mail, Batman, this guy sure spent a lot on his car"; in other words, the seller, realizing what he's spent, now assumes he can get all that back. Wish it worked that way, but it doesn't. I do like the color, and it's not even that far off Gunmetal Grey, a somewhat rare color from Triumph used on these (although Triumph's wasn't a metallic).

It's a nice car, but is it really $4,400 nicer than this one?

I like the color as well. Imaging that on a certain TR4A I know....

Showing the body off was smart marketing I think since it implies it was done right. Still probably cheaper than buying one and trying to do the same.

Given the difference in work done on the 2 I would say yes (body off restoration versus mostly original with 15 year old paint job), but are both elevated prices for what GT6's are worth today.

Umm the seat is from an MGB-GT most likely a 1970 and newer. This is the bottom part. The upper has hinges that bolt to the rear spare tire wood cover with latches for the sides so it can fold down and is shorter than the bottom. I don't think it would be very practical to use since you have the transmission tunnel nump to contend with.

Yeah, for one thing, its hard to tell just how good a car that is with the pics. If it ran, they really ought to have taken it out in the sunshine at least. It may be very original, but in this case, the buyers are understanding the preservation that went into the grey one, the blue one may turn to dust and blow a way the second a semi truck passes it. Without seeing the car in person, you just dont know.

The question is, why are they elevated? Money laundering? Or could it just be that the market is getting stronger with these?

Thanks a bunch! Maybe I can make some of my money back by selling this. Its in excellent shape. I was quite surprised how nice it looked after I cleaned it up.
