TR6 Is this a starter issue?

I just got my gearbox back in my 1973 TR6 after installing a new Fidanza aluminum flywheel and Magic Clutch Kit from TRF. Everything bolted back up - went to start the engine, but the starter isn't turning it over. I pulled the starter and tried it away from the flywheel and I can hear the motor running (can't say anything about whether the pinion gear pops out as I couldn't see it well enough). When I try to start the car (with the starter bolted up) I can hear the solenoid click followed by a hum. If I had to guess, the hum doesn't sound like the starter motor turning over - more like it's locked up, but that's just a guess. The other bit of sleuthing I did was to pull the plugs and roll the car to ensure nothing was binding. While the plugs were out, I also tried to turn the engine over with the starter - thinking that it should be much easier for the starter to perform that way but I got the same click and hum sound with the plugs out. Weird that the starter worked fine when I began this project 10-months ago.

I am not going to think badly did the new flywheel also have the gear installed. Second what starter do you have OEM or newer gear reduction??? all gears should match up on either starter.

The book shows Flywheel with gear Fidanza So starter most likely Remove starter and test it on the ground or in vice to hold starter Even a battery charger is enough to test Madflyer

The Fidanza flywheel did come with the gear ring preinstalled. And the starter is definitely not a newer gear reduction style.

Some times as with OEM I had a bad Commutator bar ( dead Spot ) and if bearings are bad can draw starter arm to fields and not allow to turn. tHey can be rebuilt but for same price I installed new Geared My TR 6 is also 1973 and was org. to car Madflyer
