Is there any problem in putting TR6 plastic wheel covers & TR6 lug nuts on TR3 wheels

Is there any problem with putting TR6 plastic wheel hub covers and TR6 lug nuts on TR3 wheels? I currently use the big stock lug nuts and stock chrome hub caps. I just got some free black TR6 wheel covers and thought I'd put them on my TR3 just for the heck of it. I want to make sure the TR3 wheels have the same lug nut size as TR6 to ensure this won't wallow out the TR3 wheels and also so the TR6 lug nuts hold the TR3 wheels correctly. Thanks!

The nuts should be OK, as long as the studs don't bottom in the nuts. The threads and seats are the same, but the TR3 nuts are open while the TR6 nuts aren't. (I use TR6 wheels on my TR3, but with TR3 nuts & hubcaps.)

I don't see any reason why the TR6 center cap wouldn't fit; but I've never tried it myself. The outer beauty ring I'm pretty sure won't fit, the TR3 wheels aren't as deep as the TR6 wheels. They would look good with the TR3 beauty rings, though, if you can find a set.

Thanks Randall! Most of the time I run TR6 wheels with low profile tires on my TR3 and use silver TR6 hub covers and no beauty rings. So I'm ok with the stud length with the TR6 wheels. I didn't think about checking stud length with TR3 wheels, but I'll double check that. My other concern was if the "taper' and size of the TR6 lug nuts and wheel holes is the same as the "taper" and wheel hole size as on the TR3 wheels.

The reason for my concern is that when I got the car it had some lug nuts that most likely were not correct for the wheels. A couple of the wheels had the lug nut holes wallowed out because the lug nuts did not fit correctly. I had to find two different wheels.

Hello Randall

I see that Rimmer Brothers sell TR6 wheels. I had searched and collected a lot of TR3 wheels to get a set of 5 that ran true. Nice to know that you can get new steel wheels.
