I have a 73 Marina 4 dr behind my pole barn, the body is pretty much shot. I havent seen another Marina since the middle 80s (in the highschool parking lot) is there any left ?

Yup! This one is here in Canada, more precisely Calgary...

I'm a member of the British Saloon Car Club of Canada, and I believe there are several members who have Austin Marina's, both in Canada and the United States

Aargh - Too many flashbacks after seeing that.
Even the colour is the same...

You used to have one of these fine examples of the British car builders' art, Alan? The only ones I had experience with were company cars, with a red stripe along each side. Decent go with the twin carb 1800cc unit, but lethal in the wet.........

Bit light back there, were they? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I recall a treacherous ride in one in fresh snow. S'posed to be "delivering" the bloody thing to the new owner. Scared the crap outta me. The air cleaner was always an enigma too... single SU surrounded by a "donut" lookin' filter housing... we got the "smog" cars. Hateful.

Oh heck, in that configuration the thing would have been a real pooch! Not a "bad" car per se, just.........well, twenty years behind its time. Certainly not suited for high-speed pursuits...........

Ah, they weren't all that bad. I had four or five of them for company cars, and they did just fine. Always took the two door, and never had to deal with snow in New Orleans.

I changed the clutch on mine. I didn't realise you had to drop the back of the engine. Took 12 hours of fiddling. That and the rot put me off the most.

It wasn't the worst car I ever had, but it wasn't much fun in the wet. It would out drag a 1600 Escort in its day - but the Escort in question was likely knackered.

The privilege of worst car - amid strong competition - was held jointly by a Talbot Samba (unibody, so rusty when it went round corners the front and rear wheels moved relative to one another - visibly) and a Triumph Dolomite that had inner fenders made from old Heinz bean cans (sans labels). Actually the Herald should probably make the list somewhere (condition), also the Allegro, the 72 Vauxhall Victor, and the Morris Minor for sure. If ever a car was the antithesis of a dragster that was it...

I see one around downtown Calgary once and a while - oddly its white but not the one Sherlock posted.

Alan, you have had a collection of cars that, curiously, I never experienced. My LBCs started with a 105E Anglia (nice little car), then a Mini 850 Deluxe and, in no particular order, a Mk3 Cortina 2000 GL, Hillman Avenger 1500 (bloomin' 'orrible, has to be the worst car I ever owned) a Rover 3500S, an early MG Metro, a 1500 Spitfire and a Jaguar Series 2 XJ 5.3 which was probably the best car I owned, really! Never had a Dolomite, but I always rather liked those, nor any Vauxhalls either, don't know why..........

I second the notion about the Herald, my first car and the start of this unhealty affliction of collecting LBCs. The gear shift lever would unexpectedly drop into the transmission when it passed over neutral when shifting from first to second.

An uncle had a Hillman Imp with the same malady! Auntie was ~supposed~ to learn to drive it as a grocery getter... put her off driving *completely* !!!

Id like to find one with a good body, the previous owner rebuilt the engine (with some mods) before he left it out to rot

I'd like to find anything with a good body at this point in the journey. All I'm finding are the old wrinkly ones...of course I'm referring to old autos!

Marina? One of the worst of the cars inflicted upon the unsuspecting buying public by BLMC.

Much rather have a Morris Awkward or an Austin Garbage!

We had plenty of Marinas in Canada and they have thankfully all rusted away. ;-)

I agree. I haven't missed the passing of the Marina's.. If I had to, I could probably hunt one down, but I'd rather hunt down something like a nice Viva GT ( or Epic GT in Canada..)

Oh oh, I think my wife is listening...

everybody duck!

Hey! Someone's got to love the unloved... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif But given a choice I'll take a Viva GT as well... I know where one might be available for sale here in Calgary, Just trying to get you in trouble... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Introduced to knock the Cortina off its perch, this and its successor the Ital were horrid!
BTW, the Morris Minor wasn't nearly as bad. They were much better built, went on for ever, didn't rot at the sight of a damp patch. Their only real problem was thay didn't have enough power to get out of their own way!

The better answer than the Morris Minus was the Riley 1.5 - same pan, and suspension, but the 1.5 engine and trans.

Of course that was often a bit hard on the A series rear axle......

They might be the worst, but this one has a rebuilt 1800 engine with some mods, kinda like to put it to use. Id drop it in a MGB if I could find one for a decent price in good condition.
