Getting tired of the information overload about the upcoming Royal Wedding over in England this weekend, some TV channels here in Canada seem to be devoting all of their programing to it, plus regular updates on the news about little details...

And of course the big question being asked:

Are you going to stay up early in the morning for the wedding? Let's see... It's at 2 AM local time on Friday morning and work starts at 7 AM, I think you know the answer

Ah yes, but there will be a re-broadcast on Friday evening, and no I won't be watching because I really don't care about it... :hammer:

I'm looking forward to the day after when all the fuss will be over, but of course all the media will then be fussing over where they are honeymooning...

So ... we could just ignore it.

It's not just you sherlock.... I have no intention of watching... I have NO interest.
Just in case I happen to catch a glimpse, I am prepared..... :jester:

Diversion.

misdirection.

Sleigt-of-hand...

Call it what ya will.

No one's missing anything, believe me...

Although if you live in Canada you clearly know what's happening on Friday morning...

If'n ya own a Limey Limo, it is required in the Terms of Service that you watch and cheer.

better the wedding than the election - but only just. I've taken to watching BBC so I will know what is going on in the world that matters.

True enough...

Our media will have plenty to talk about on the weekend...

I don't mind it so much. Well I shouldn't, should I? The groom's granny was my boss for many a year.....

I greatly prefer all of the wedding hoo-ha over the run-up to elections, with the constant bombardment of negative ads from everyone involved, and some from people who aren't... SWMBO is taking the day off work to watch it, as is a good friend of mine from up in Canada. It's going to be one heck of a big party in the UK! It's been declared a national holiday.

The wife made the comment the other day that the reason that people are royal-wedding crazy is that it's the first piece of really good news in goodness knows how long and I can't say that I disagree. The soon-to-be newlyweds are not trying to make a buck out of anyone, they are not making a political comment of any description, and if anyone is deserving of criticism it's the press who ARE trying to make a buck out of it through selling advertising. It's like another superbowl for them.....

So for me, I am just going with the flow. I'm not planning on watching it but I'm sure I'll catch part of one of the many repeats of the action. It's okay, I don't have a problem with it.

Who really cares? Why don't they spend all of that money on taking
care of what really matters?
The Royal Family is among the wealthiest in the world. Why is this?
If they have SOOO much money, then why don't they underright all of the
expenses incurred withb this occasion?

Interesting article - the Royals don't actually earn that much and, I know that Kate's family is coughing up 100,000 pounds for the day. what Royals earn

Among other things, the crowned heads of old Europe and the royal families with all their monarchic trappings are a symbol of continuity to the public. Most folks like stuff that is unaffected (basically) by change. And, some of those public rituals such as this wedding are older than the Magna Carta (now, that's old)!

Call it nostalgia, call it crazy: the British royals have been in the headlines for centuries, for good or ill, and more often for the latter. But, Prince Charles is a pretty decent and intelligent guy, bravely challenging the establishment on environmental issues long before it was popular to do so. His one big mistake, being a bad husband, is not a hanging offense. He's been a good father and he will make a great King someday.

I say, God Save the Queen! And, best wishes and a long life to Prince William and his beautiful bride.

It's a good thing, in the long run . . . :yesnod:

I agree with Mark.....

Being a Brit (and a taxpayer still) I have to say that the expenditure, huge though it is, should easily be recovered through the enormous boost that the tourist industry will receive (the tax revenue that will be generated).

 A good one Steve.... Thanks!

I'm in the UK this week. I don't know how much coverage you are getting in Canada, but it can't be more than here. The whole nation has gone totally nuts.

Seems to me that we should have at least a few anglophiles here, who would take some delight in what's going on. I think it's kinda fun, although largely a chick thing. Maybe it's that few of us are chicks. After all, the big talk before the wedding was about the gown and what guests were wearing. Nothing terribly interesting to us, until the happy couple drove off in dad's Aston Martin.
