Paul - it's all just a numbers game. You're born with intelligence (otherwise you'd never have made it out of the cradle!). IQ is just one way of measuring certain aspects of what we call "intelligence".
But our brain cells become a bit less nimble as we "gain experience" (a/k/a "get older").
