Hello; I'm new here. I have a 1978 Inca Yellow MGB which I bought from a Mazda dealer back in 1992. The previous owner (the only previous) had traded it in on a sunburst yellow Miata. Anyway it's in good condition except for a truly terrible repaint at some point by PO. It has 47,000 original miles and has a weber 45 dcoe and extractor exhaust manifold. Probably over carburrated but it sounds really nice. I also own a 2002 Laser Blue Miata for my everyday car. I have previously owned 2 MG Midgets, a Mini 1000 and a Jaguar XJ6, a beautiful car but a pain in the you know where.

Sorry no pics of the MG yet, I'll try and get some taken, just got a digital camera.
Cheers!

Hello ebygum and welcome to the forum!

It was your name that caught my attention, expecially as I watched an episode of All Creatures Great & Small last night!! It made me smile. I'm not usually to be found on the MG Forum, but as I've been away from a computer for three weeks I'm reading every post in an attempt to catch up.

Have fun here...

Welcome ebygum,

You have a very similar background to one of our other members (Steve), including the MGB, the UK and WI.

You'll find a fair amount of Brit car-owners here who use a Miata as daily transport (including me).

So, did you drive your British car to work this week? (you *do* know what week this is, right?)

Thanks to all for the welcome.
RG - Wow, I haven't seen a Ginetta in a while, is that the one with the Hillman Imp engine? I used to own an Imp. I'm from Yorkshire, the land of All Creatures Great And Small.

Aeronica65t - No, I did not drive it this week, I'm in the middle of converting it to chrome bumpers and rebuilding the front suspension.

Steve- the climate is better here than Yorkshire, at least most of the time.

Gary - Miata- the best British car in the world. Still, it just kills me that it doesn't have an MG badge on the front.

Cheers!

Hmm? Mocking & witty, with a just a hint of sarcastic seriousness to him.

Congratulations – your going to fit in well in this forum Ebygum. But someone has just got to sit down with me and explain this whole British humor phenomenon to me some day.

Anyway welcome aboard.

Oh & Gary – Please don’t pick on the newbies strait out of the box. You’ll scare them away.

Hi ebygum and welcome to the Forum...

The way things are going I'm going to be the only Englishman left in England on this Forum!.

What is it with Wisconsin, it can't be the weather, cause Steve is always complaining about the Cold!...

Best of luck, great bunch of people...

Cheers

Someone tried to send you a Private Message but it got returned as undeliverable. Is your email in your profile correct?

Oops, sorry about that, I had registered at work but methinks the firewall software was feeling a mite sensitive. I changed my profile to my home e-mail. Could they try again?

Thanks!

Hello Ebygum!
Yep, the 15 has an 875cc Imp engine in the back, mounted transversely... my husband wants to pick up a 998cc and tune it just for the heck of it!! We've owned the G15 since 1989 and the GT6 since about 1984, they only arrived on this side of the pond in December, we're hoping to have the 15 on the road by about August of this year. I know of two 15's in Canada and one in Florida, all three are race cars.

We had an Imp when I was growing up (in Durham, UK) and then Mini's, I wouldn't mind having a Sunbeam Stilleto at some point!

Have fun with your MG.

ebygum:

I converted my rubber-bumper MG (a Midget) to chrome bumpers several years ago...I have a page describing the process here:

https://npmccabe.tripod.com/mgbumpers.htm

.....although it is presently running no bumpers...see here:

https://www.kenbeardphoto.com/hhc03/pages/HHC03_2411.htm

.....and, although I'm Irish, I was born in Yorkshire (Leeds).....and I've read all of James Herriot's (wonderful) books.

.....and, I cannot honestly think of a better "daily driver" than a Miata (they are tons better than the boring "land-beasts" that *most* people seem to be driving these days).....as for Miatas being "worthy" as a true sports car.......who cares?.....as long as you're having fun!

RG:

The "hot" Imp motor is really a "Coventry-Climax"....right?

Nial,
I might be mistaken but I think the 875cc was an all alloy derivative of the Coventry Climax engine, and the 998cc was a bored out and tuned version of that. So I suppose that makes them both CC derivatives, although the original Imps came as standard with the 875cc and the Sunbeam Stiletto and Singer Chamois had the 998cc engine. You can pretty much put either engine into the Imps and other Imp based cars. Still an amazing piece of engineering considering it's original application was as a fire pump!!
