In the summer of 2014, my son and I purchased a 1975 MGB. The car was in very bad shape and literally on its way to the garbage. The guy we purchased it from was leaving the country in two days and the car was scheduled to be picked up by the scrap man on Monday (it was Saturday when we saw the car). The car was in pieces and the floor boards and trunk were rotted out. The pics below were taken the day we brought it home. My son is washing out the mouse droppings and cat hair.

Since purchasing the car, we have restored the body with multiple body mods (hey why not?). The most notable changes, we trashed the rubber bumpers and built fiberglass roll pans for the front and rear of the car. We replaced the rear tail lights with lights from a 1980 Cadillac which required a bit more body work than we originally anticipated. We eliminated the side moldings, body weld seams, holes for mirrors and antenna, the back up lights, side markers lights (both front and rear), and fuel filler neck. The license plate has been "frenched" in the rear fascia of the car. The exterior door handles and door locks have been removed along with the boot lock and handle. The front fascia was constructed of a hand laid fiberglass with a pair of round turn signals recessed below the headlights. The MG grill was replaced with a grill off of a 1996 Mercury Grand Marque. The front of the car was rounded to match the curvature of the new grill. The hood was shortened and radius-ed to look more like the hood on an MGA. The rotted plastic dash could not be saved so a new dash was formed from fiberglass that has a form closer to a 1950's Corvette than the typical MGB dash. The side windows and vent window frames have been removed and the opening at the top of the door for the windows were eliminated in order to get that full roadster look and feel. The front suspension has been heavily modified not only to fit the V8 engine but also to lower the ride height and improve the front end response to the road.
Introducing Sid:

Our little project car was named "Sid" because when we first added the new grill the front of the car it reminded everyone that saw it of Sid from the movie Ice Age...Well, Sid has just been painted Ford race red and looks great. Our next step is to install a 1986 Ford 302 with a C4 automatic transmission. The rocker panels have been modified so that a Corvette style side exhaust can be fitted to the car. Now that the car has been painted, I feel like we have crossed the threshold of no return. We know now that we will definitely finish the car! We are looking forward to getting to know others on the forum and swapping stories as well as car parts.
