Internet and phone through just two wires?

How is this possible? How can so many signals be sent through just two wires at the same time? Is there magic going on? Where are the elves?

In what context? Are you talking about DSL?

GPS is even stranger; all 32 satellites (or so, don't recall exact current number offhand) broadcast on exactly the same frequency. The result at the receiver is indistinguishable from noise, and yet the receiver sorts it all out (using literally the same RF path for all).

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

For phone lines it can be done by sending each signal out on a different radio frequency and then decoding each frequency into signals at their destination...just like sending all those same radio signals through the air except they're all going down a wire.
