ok on to my next question

my interior is pretty ratty and missing some key parts like the door panels and any carpets.

so im asking has anyone had any experance with any of the interior "kits" i have exchanged emails with Tony about door panels and carpets but my wife suggested replacing all the trim panels in the car so everything will match see attached pict for interior photo

With reguard to sound systems has anyone put a system in there MG? i would like to put a mild system in my car just two speakers in the doors and a small subbox on the rear shelf behind the seats with one amp driving everything. but im worried about drain on the charging system.

For the sound system, I bought a Clarion AM/FM/CD deck and installed in the dash, no amp, two Kenwood speakers for the doors. I didn't need to worry about upgrading the charging system.
Upgrading the the charging system is fairly easy with the Bosch alternator and will cost less than $70-. https://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=11&PTSet=A&SearchFor=Alternator Worldwide #13107, you may need to buy a pulley for it.
For the interior, a lot of people have mentioned Prestige and have been happy. https://www.prestigeautotrim.com/uk/mg_home.htm

I've used Moss interior kits and have been very pleased with the quality and fit. As for a radio, I took mine out. I prefer the music coming form the exhaust pipe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The stock charging system if in good order will power a radio, no problem. If you put in a powerful stereo then you may need to install a more powerful generator or an alternator. If your car is positive ground, you will need to convert it to negative ground to install an alternator. You will most likely be converting to negative ground anyway if installing a modern stereo.

I just recieved a Heritage Upholstery and Trim Panel Kit and I am immensly pleased. I went with them because I wanted a color not available stock (biscuit) for a '64 MGB.

I used moss for the panels and carpet and I am very pleased.

I've been tempted to put a small system in mine, small 2 channel amp and a good pair of componet speakers in the door but quite frankly your not going to be able to hear it at freeway speeds and I've had bad luck stereo's and water leaks.

Yup! Moss interior. CORRECTION! I was just corrected by a higher authority. Guess who? It's a Vic. Brit. biscuit interior with new leather seats. It's one of a very few things I bought from them. Cost,$2300.00. Most everything else came from Moss. Sorry.

And 10-4 on the radio. I wouldn't put another one in. A blanking plate will go in the next one. You can't hear it anyway while on the road. For a picnic, I'll take a portable. PJ

both you and Steve_S have great looking interiors on those cars. Steve_S's early interior is great for it's luxo-spartan looks, and Paul's is a good looking late model B interior.

Paul, are those them thar Suffolk seats? If so, how are they?

Rob, As the seats came in a compleat interior kit, I don't know who made them. They are soft leather, but at the same time, very supportive. They are so comfortable, it's hard to believe your in a "B". The original seats were hard and you would be uncomfortable after a long drive feeling every bump in the road. Not so with these seats. I think Vic. Brit. still sells them without the interior kit. You could get them in vinyl or leather. You have to use your rails, but the bolt holes are the same. Because the seats are thicker, a very tall person might have a vision problem with traffic lights and the upper windshield bar. PJ

Beautiful interior Paul

I went with heritage on my MGA two years ago....superior quality, but zero instructions....and every peice of carpet had to be retrimmed to fit right(after you determine which peice is suppose to go where).

I have always used a speaker box on the rear shelves of my MG's covered in matching carpet. I hook it up with quick-dosconnect speaker wire clips (like on the back of home speakers where you push the little spring loaded tab and insert a small length of stripped wire). That way if I need the space behind the seats I just unplug the wires, tuck the loose ends under the carpet, and take the box out. Takes about 10 seconds.

Steve_S

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have the same interior in my MGB. What do you use to make it look so shiny?

It came that way. I took that photo when it was still pretty new. It's all Moss products. To maintain it I use a combination of Autoglym vinyl dressing and Meguiar's Natural.

A previous owner cut two giant speaker holes in the metal behind the seats in my MG, so I use those. I actually just went into Wal-Mart and picked two good-looking 6x9 Pioneer 4-way speakers and a stereo with an aux input (for an iPod or similar device). It sounds and looks really great, and prefer the speakers behind the seats instead of in the doors. It was around $160 total.

I'd say that anyone who can't hear his or her stereo over the sounds of the highway needs some louder speakers! I've had no problems with the top down while on the freeway.
