Interesting military Jeep - "Mighty Mite"

Re: Interesting military Jeep - "Mighty Mite"

The chassis picture looks like a Ford MUTT but that *air-cooled* V4 engine....I've never seen anything like that.

Re: Interesting military Jeep - "Mighty Mite"

That V-4 engine maybe the same one I keep coming across in Mungas overseas. If it's made by Ford, anyway...

Re: Interesting military Jeep - "Mighty Mite"

That’s kind’a cool. But the Mighty Mite was a little before my time. The vehicle I’m most familiar with is the M274 Mule pictured below. Used by both the Marines and the Army - it wasn’t much on comfort, but it could easily fit into most medium (CH46) & heavy lift (CH53) rotor-wing aircraft. FYI to all you civilians - Rotor-wing is another military term for helicopter.

What made this buck board design even more versatile was that she had 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering and the ability to haul a ½ ton. A real workhorse.

Here’s a Mule link: M274

BTW Sherlock, there is no such thing as an ex-Marine.

I checked on ebay. Nothing good coming up for the Mighty Mite, but there's an M274 Mule on there for about 2800 right now. And a crapload of parts.

She's looks to be in real good shape. I'm not sure what I'd actually do with it, but I have asked the seller if he'd be willing to let me view it tomorrow night when I'm Yuma. I don't know if the price is reasonable but I will try to have my research done before I make a bid.

Just came across these pictures in Webshots of a Jeep, used in the USMC, never heard of this before... any ex-USMC people out there who remember these?
