going that way on a bumper conversion is a first for me too.
 
The full Webasto sunroof was indeed an option. I have never heard of the rubber bumper conversion either. Why on earth would anyone do this? Maybe the owner liked the look of the car with them.
 
I remember the Webasto sunroof as option on B-GT's, but that rubber bumper thing is waay off the mark.

I did have a client with a later "high steppin" rubber bumper car, white, that he'd had the bumpers painted to match the car colour. Actually made them (somewhat) less offensive. Since have seen several with the same treatment.
 
Price is certainly in my price range for a decent project car, but I've got enough work on my plate for the next year or so and the wife’d kill me if I had another project sitting around.

As for the Rubber Bumper conversion – it is curious to see someone go that direction rather than the more common other way.

Not wishing to start an argument those that like to turn their noses up at Rubber Bumper cars by touting their benefits. My first thought is that the previous owner might have wanted them for safety concerns. The only other reason I could think is that maybe the chrome bumpers where damaged and the owner went with the rubber because of repair costs. Seems that a low MPH tapping of a rubber bumper wouldn’t cost anything whereas a chrome bumper would require a lot more attention repair & money-wise.
 
Yeah, but then again most low MPH impacts miss the bumper copmpletely, and "just" smash up the body!

I've also been "nudged" at intersections by people over estimating how close their full-size van, car, SUV is to me. I'm glad I had rubbers when it happened. I've also had one of my roommates scuff my bumper with her fender... no damage to my car (unless you count the silver paint left on the bumper), but it put a nice crease in her front right fender that impedes the operation of her passenger door.

So, while I may not particularly car for the way my bumpers look on my car, I definitely recognize their handiness... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And yeah, I too have never heard of someone converting a CB into a RB, until now...

Again it was just speculation on my part as to why a Previous Owner might have made the change from Chrome to Rubber. But I do find it hard and maybe a bit unfair to apply current safety thinking to yesterday’s mindsets on the subject. However at the time when the rubber bumpers where adopted to meet Federal standards, we need to keep in mind that those same standards also required the raising of the ride height about two inches.

Current SUV & Truck bumper heights not withstanding – it makes sense that the RBs and raised ride height of the late MGBs would have helped reduce the cost of low impact collisions at the time. But even today of those low impact accidents that might simply leave a scuff mark on a rubber bumper car, would cost a heck of a lot more to repair on a chrome bumper B.

Now I might be a bit bias – But I think that the Rubber Bumpers of the late MGBs was actually well incorporated into the overall flow of the design. However while I might understand why someone would consider converting a RB to a CB, from a pure cosmetic stand point I don’t think I could ever understand why someone would consider going the other way.
