Interesting EV conversion

Oh dear God, how pretentious can you get? I'm sure it rides VERY smooth with all of that extra weight. I'm sure glad they got rid of that horrible gasoline engine, jeez mine was only delivering 35+ MPG.../bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

When we bought my midget last year there was a converted electric Midget on e-bay. It would cost about $2500 to convert it over and according to what I read, the Midget is a good choice cause it is a lighter car. Now here a year and much more than that later (and a car that still doesn't run mind you) my husband teases often about not taking the "electric" choice.

I bet they become real good friends with the MOWOG axleshaft sales people. The brakes are not made to stop that kind of weight. I would think it would be dangerous. Not to mention the springs and other susoension parts. If I were gonna do something like that I would build a good frame to hold all that weight and a suspension that could handle it and then use a fiberglass shell and thinks like that to lighten the vehicle.

I agree, that seems like too much weight for the suspension and brakes to handle safely. Probably a better conversion for a pickup truck that has more payload capacity to spare. I'd look at using Li-ion batteries if I was going to try to convert mine, but for now the engine runs fine (albeit smelly).

I think the conversion was done 10 yrs ago. Surely there are better(affordable) battery alternatives now.

All things considered, that's a pretty worthless EV. 65mph and a 35 mile range for 8 hours of charging. Sheesh.

You can make an EV out of a Porsche 914 that will go about 100 miles on a charge and has a top speed in the high 90s. If range is not a consideration, you can set it up so that it will out accelerate anything on the road!

I agree, it seems like a waste of time and money, be better just to pedal.
