Lee - doesn't that apply only if your cards have an RFID chip in them?

Tom

Tom,

It does, but in the eternal consumer cry for convenience you'll start to see this appear in more and more products. Check your cards for the RFID logo to see if you have it.

It's nothing new though. Those old mobil speedpass fobs had the same issues.

I recently read that the "plan" is that RFID-style cards will be standard within the next few years.

Frankly I think they're going to be the same as ATM/debit cards; the banks have been trying to slowly make debit cards standard for years. The banks I've dealt with make it sound like ATM cards aren't available but in fact the debit cards are easily refused.

A lot of paranoids are just getting shielded wallets that blocks access to the RFID stuff anyway. With credit cards, debit cards, driver's licenses, passport-cards, and others going with embedded RFID it wouldn't hurt.
