TR2/3/3A Intake header crossover passage.....

Shouldn’t be too dirty esp with carbon as it shouldn’t have burnt residue on the intake side.
but may be you could suck some string through using a vacuum cleaner and then pull a soaked rag through the cross over ?
When I pulled the cylinder head to address the blown head gasket (possibly F08 failure...can't determine that till Spring because of weather conditions here) I found that the inside of the intake manifold was just covered in carbon! There may be another issue going on in addition to the gasket problem namely a suspected broken chain tensioner and possible skipped timing chain tooth? Would the latter cause such a carbon build up?
 
I would have thought that carbon on the intake side suggests combustion before the inlet valve is closed - or opening just after ignition. But this would mean a distinct lack of compression.
i think this would cause carb flames/spitting back. So yes slipped timing chain may contribute to this issue
