Intake for single SU

I aquired a pair of 1 3/4" dia barrel SU carbs. They can w/o any intake or linkage or anything else. I would like to use one of these carbs to replace the Zenith. I can see the carb mounting flange is incorrect, but it also looks as if I can add 2 holes and port out the intake throat to match the carb.... any thoughts on this? Is there already a readily available intake to mount a single SU or do I have to reinvent the wheel? THANKS. (79 Midget)

Tony

Don't know about the 1500 Midget but one off an MG1100/1300 will fit the other Midgets.

I saw some on ebay off older engines and it looks like they have 2 intake ports to head and the 1500 have an intake port for ea. cyl. Have I missed something?

Thanks for the fast comeback.

You're into Triumph engine modifications here, Tony. P'raps the Spifire guys have a more thorough knowledge of what's available for the conversion.

didnt aomeone here just do this? i cant find anything in the search....it might have been an 1 1/2 carb, but i think they used the zenith manifold.

Triumph forum may be a better resource. The 79 Midget shares the same engine as the Spitfire. I spend a lot of time looking around the web for manifold and carb mods for the 1500, and I have not seen a ready made manifold for putting a single HS6 on a 1500. I have a buddy here in town who told me he was going to hang a HS6 on his 1500 Midget using the stock manifold. I will see if I can raise him and see how he approached the problem.

Found it! wow did you fellas know that you cant search for "SU" in the forum search? Go figure... anyway It was Rob Selina that did it with an hs4. with photo even. How is it working Rob?
Single HS4

I ran an HS4 on my 1500 for a while. All I did was slot out the carb holes with a rat-tail file. Ran fine....I replaced it because I wanted a bigger single carb for racing (I have an S&S 2 inch "Shorty" now), but the HS4 would be a good choice for a street car.

There are twin carb 1500 Midget manifolds available for Candadian and European cars. These manifolds came with two HS2s (the Canadian and Euro Spits also had this setup). You occasionally see them on e-Bay.

Thanks, the link helps. I can see how it will go on. The

I still cant figure out what model the carbs actually are. What I have are AUD 4052 and 4053 but someone ingraved aud 4016 on the body of one of these. I cant find any info on any of these on the net. Any good SU sight that can help me figure out what I have here. From what Im reading an HS6 might be a bit much for this car. I really dont even know what these are. THANKS

Tony

Thanks, this helps greatly. I really appriciate the help. If anyone becomes interested in the intake/carb config or the homemade exhaust feel free to give me a msg, I should have it done in the next week.
