Now that I have driven the TR3 with my Wife and she loves it
I need to get insurance to be legal. Any info would be apperciated.
I also got my new plates "5T8 TR3A"

Every insurance company is good until you have an accident and they have to pay. That is when you find out who is OK and who is the best. In my opinion, Hagerty is the best in service, courtesy, fairness to the owner and actually in caring that the car is done to your satisfaction.

I never knew until last week, that the claims rep from Hagerty headquarters that was assigned to my case, called the body shop twice a week to monitor the progress on my car. The owner of the shop thought that I knew and never bothered to mention it until we just happened to be talking about how good Hagerty was.

Here's my repair saga:

I went with Hagerty. Great rates and very easy process. I insured both of my cars with liability only on the driving TR3 for just over $100/yr

That is a tough one, probably more for theft and vandalism than anything else.

If anyone has found a good policy that doesn't require the car to be garage kept, I'd love to know! My wife refuses to give up her spot in the garage, so any new cars need to be parked in the street!

Grounds for divorce, I'd say! :cryin:

Buy or rent a second garage with the money you'd save on the premium you'd pay to have it outside?

A search here will get you a *lot* of suggestions and comments.

But as far as many of us are concerned ... you can't get better insurance than Hagerty's.

As Tom had mentioned; Search some past posts and you`ll find a quite a few Companys etc etc. What I feel you should be know is this: Be sure to get an "AGREED UPON VALUE"!!

That would be wrong... she bought me my Six in the first place!

Thought about that, actually... I could take down a couple of trees in the back yard, and put up another garage back there. But I bet my home owners association would throw a fit, though!

Hey, Dale... can you call up Rouse Co. and tell them that a new garage in my back yard was part of your origional vision for Columbia?

Oh, and just so this isnt a total thread theft: Tinman, I use Haggarty and they seem to be top notch! Never needed a claim from them, though, thank the car gods.

Russ,

Hagerty has raised mine twice already without me asking. The increase in premium was peanuts.

FWIW, I had my 59 TR3A insured with Mercury. Since it was a daily driver, there was no way to qualify for "collector" insurance like Hagarty or JC Taylor or Grundy offer. Also normally stored outdoors.

Basically I stated a "not to exceed" value for the car, which is what my premium was based on; while any actual payment would be for actual damages. The car was pretty rough when I signed up, so I only stated $8k.

Few years ago, I was the cream filling in a 4-car chain collision. Took some doing to find a shop that would even give an estimate on repairing it; estimate was $12k.

To determine my car's value, Mercury found four "comparable sales", meaning TR3As in similar condition that had sold within the previous year. I saw the list, and could have argued that those cars were not comparable and/or provide counterexamples if I wanted to (but they were). The average of those actual sale prices was $8800, more than my "not to exceed" amount; so they just cut me a check for $8000 and let me keep the wreck/salvage. Since my freshly rebuilt 4-synchro OD gearbox (with the beefed up TR6 main housing) was intact; along with several other go-fast goodies, I feel I made out quite well.

Of course, my other choice was to turn down Mercury's offer and pursue the guy that hit me directly. No doubt it was his fault as I and the other two cars in front of me were fully stopped before he hit us; and he even admitted to the CHP on the scene that he was not watching the road. But I doubt I could have gotten more than $10k from his insurance, so I chose to accept Mercury's offer.

YMMV and all that, but I'm happy with Mercury and they still carry my insurance (house and car).

Are those of you insured with Hagerty or a similar company with a "collector car" policy actually driving your cars? They wouldn't insure my '67 VW bus because I drove it everyday. They told me it could only come outside to be in shows and parades. Thats a waste of a car!

I'm in the middle of a claim with Hagerty regarding my towing adventure and so far they have been great.

They do want to insure occasional use cars however...

Rusty - altho' I've (fortunately) never needed to file a claim, I've been really pleased with Hagerty. They're actually interested in the car, and its "progress".

If I were driving it every day, I wouldn't be going for collector car insurance. But I care about my TR, and only drive it for fun and "exercise". Hagerty works for me. I have no problem with their "limited use" requirements.

I talked to Haggerty in the fall and they seemed to be quite liberal with their driving conditions. They don't want it used as a daily driver, like taking it to go grocery shopping but.....when I asked if we were out for a pleasure drive and stopped at the grocery store on the way home, would I be in compliance? Or if we stopped at our golf course to have lunch or dinner, were we covered? I told her that I drive the car 4 or 5 days a week in good weather so would that be covered. In all cases she said yes. I just couldn't use it as a daily driver  They did require that there be a regular car for every licensed driver in the house. When I mentioned that we're both retired and were considering selling one car because it never gets used, she was concerned but said we'd cross that bridge if/when it happened. I haven't changed to them yet but I still may.

You all know my story with them. No complaints from me about Hagerty when it really counted.

I think the poster was just a little PO'd,don't know if that is the right verb, about can't be a daily driver.

I just hooked my bus up with Classic Auto Insurance through AAA. Agreed value and so on. Once the TR3 is drivable, I'll go through them as well.

I have a funny story for ya,Couple summers ago i had my Spitfire parked in the portable garage with the cover on it,decided we'd go for a drive took the cover off left it lay in the garage & off we went.We came back parked the car in the OTHER GARAGE.My son came home backed his car up against the cover. He went to work the next morning with the cover hooked to his rear bumper.I went out to find the cover had disappeared  to find my expensive car cover laying along the road a 1/2 mile from the end of my driveway, walked down to retrieve it found a rip in it called Hagerty they said no problem & 3 days later i recieved my bloated reinbursement in the mail...That was the only claim i've ever had in 5 years of driving Whitelightning.Funny how things happen UEXPECTEDLY .My yearly premium has never changed $100.00 a year on a $10,500 agreed value coverage.Hagerty's just the best their is.I guess Grundy's ok too.
