Insurance on a Healey

My annual cost is about $220 or so. You can set the insured value of the car (unlike most carriers), which will vary the cost somewhat. Check out their website, they have a calculator that will give you a quote.

i just did the calculation and it doesn't seem right. only 228 for someone with 2 or more points in the last 3 years a year? That seems strange. Are classic cars less expensive to insure for some reason?

I suppose they figure that they won't be on the road as much as one's primary vehicle. For whatever reason, Hagerty came well-recommended and I saved some money over Allstate.

Just so you know, Haggerty is special insurance for classic cars not used as daily drivers. I use them and have been very happy, but they have usage limits. The usage limits include driving to work, storing it outside (including carport) and a few other things I can't remember right now. Mileage is a limit on some policies (might vary state to state), but the are very flexible on this from what I am told.

So you're saying I wouldn't be able to use it as a daily driver? I can't drive to work with it? Are there any classic car insurances that allow this?

the limits that these classic car insurance companies can be quite onerous - among others, they have very specific rules about where the car is parked/stored and they want one "daily use" vehicle for each licensed driver in the household.

i think "allow" is a tricky word. none of them "allow" it (to my knowledge – and i did a ton of research), but they're not exactly setting up surveillance in your garage either!

Time--

If those are your intentions then you could insure the car as a second vehicle under your present auto policy--it will cost a lot more than the classic insurers charge but you will be covered and will not be running the risk of having a denial under the liability section.

Rather than worrying too much about insurance why not first concentrate on learning whether a Healey is really for you, what are the advantages/disadvantages and values of the various models, etc. etc. There are great archives on this forum that you can search and/or you can just stay tuned and listen.

that's what I'm basically doing. I am trying to get as much info as I can to decide whether or not a Healey is the way to go for me.

Most companys that insure classic cars have some mileage limit. Usually it is 3000 miles but you can increase the limit for an additional cost. If you are worried about mileage than check out Grundy, they have no mileage limit but as with the other companys (Hagerty, American Classic, etc) they do have usage limits.

Hagerty is great and their service is in class by itself.

Have you ever had a claim with them?

Well, I have been using J.C.Taylor for years and I certainly do not have any complaints either.--FWIW___Keoke

Of course if you do not want any complaints ,you will not have any claims-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
