TR2/3/3A installing wiring harness tr3

Hi all, well I am trying to install this new wiring harness on my tr3 and I am running over with caution. My first concern is right there at the voltage regulator because there are too many wirers to comfortably go through the rubber grommet without damaging the cloth covering. Does anybody know of a way to help glide the wires through? I am putting the grommet on second after the wirers are pushed through the bare hole in the fire wall. Does anybody have a good picture of this area because I am not sure if both large holes in the area are used for wires by the fuse box. I think the lower hole might just get plug? Anyways, I purchased the grommets from Moss and they seem really stiff. I asked BW about it and they are sending some of the ones they have, but they probably are too stiff also.

Here is a photo from my 1958 TR3A. Slide the grommet onto the harness then feed the harness carefully into the hole until you get to the grommet. Then with a small screwdriver you can pop the grommet edges through and it's done.

Thanks Don that helps a bunch. I am still unsettled about the three leads coming through right there at the regulator. I just do not think I get the grommet to give that much without damaging the cloth cover, but it looks like you magically did it.

A little lithium grease does wonders on that type of thing. Of course mine is a wrapped black tape so that will help, I hope.

To get the harness thru that firewall hole w/o damage I formed a cone/funnel from a piece from a plastic 1-gallon milk bottle. With that stuck in the hole the harness slipped right thru.

For reference, here is a pic I snapped from a friend's very ratty but (I think) pretty original TR3A:

Good idea - very innovative!
