I know there have been several threads on this subject, in fact I have a fair amount of info in my BCF files and it is very helpful. One question though, as I look at everything It seems to me that it would make sense to make a trial fit of everything and then put the cubby box on the dash and then install the dash. Is that doable or am I asking for trouble?
Also there is a hole on the top of my cubby box, about 1/2 inch to the left of the lock plate but I find nothing to attach it to. Am I missing something some where along the way?

I made a trial fit of the door and all the associated hardware before actually installing the dash. You will most likely have to tweak things to get everything to fit nicely. I didn't try to fit the cubby box itself at this time, although it might not be a bad idea. Then I removed the door (no cubby box on) and put the dash in place. You'll appreciate the access that not having the box or door on gives you, although you might able to set things in place with the door on. I just didn't want to mess anything up with the door, as the screws holding it on can't handle much abuse. I put the actual cubby box in place after the the dash was in and I had taken care of all of the other items under there.

No. After the dash was in place, I put in the tach and speedo. Having the gauge cluster out of the way makes that easier. Then the gauge cluster. Not having the cubby box in makes that easier. Finally the glove box and door.

Edit: I also put the steering column in before the tach and speedo. That allows easier access to the bracing etc. Just leave the wheel off. But you could probably put the column in afterwards without too much of a hassle.
 
Thanks Art, my column is in place as is the heater, wind screen wiper wheel box's and the demister stuff. I can see that not having the cubby box in would really help with gauge cluster. Also will help with the oil pressure line that has to go around the heater.

Although not removing the entire dash, when I refreshed my gauge cluster, I put that in first, and then the speedo/tach. I recall I needed the bigger holes to finish off tightening the gauge cluster.....

A "trial fitting" of the cubby box, while the dash is off is a fine idea. It will allow you to line up the three spire nuts at the front edge and get a good fit.

Then -- take it off and don't put it back on until the last thing. There are things rendered inaccessible that you may want/need to get at. And there's no point in having the cubby in until you actually want to put your gloves in it.

For instance: Installing/adjusting the bonnet hinges doesn't happen with that box in the way.

BTW -- Real pretty work on the dash covering, in that other thread.
