Installing electric fan switch.

OK, I've been working in the garage all day, so the Ugly Bug is almost ready to start up. While I'm taking a break I'll share something I learned today.

I'm installing an electric fan behind the vertical flow radiator and the car is using a 1275 engine. The temperature gauge sensor bulb is installed in the head, so I decided to use the port in the radiator for the switch for an electric fan. But where can I get one threaded to fit (I think it is 3/8" BSP)? I thought about all sorts of adapters, but decided just to have the parts guy go through some on the shelf. The second one he pulled out looked almost perfect. He looked it up and said it was for a mid 80's dodge colt import. I'm not sure if the threads were a perfect match, but with a little work it fit and I think it is going to seal correctly.

I guess I should have asked here first because I'm sure someone already knew the answer, but it was a fun exercise (even if it did cost me a little time).

I have a generic (JC Whitney) stick in the fins temp probe and it came with an adjustable switch so I set it to come on at 170. It's been fine for 6 or 7 years now.
Now if I can only get the cruise control to work.

5/8 x 18? Hmm... OK, most of the other switches he pulled down were tapered threads. Maybe that is what GM/Ford uses?

I'm aware of the probe thermo couple thing-a-ma-bob, but I'm working on reducing clutter under the bonnet. I've come a long way, but I have further to go.

OK did a little searching. 3/8 BSP is 19 TPI and close to 5/8 size. Given how much force I had to apply and how many brass splinters fell to the floor I have to wonder what the actual threads are. I think they are 3/8 BSP, but the flank angle must given enough room for 5/8-18 to fit tight.

I used a in-hose sensor and switch on my '58. Been in there about 3 years now and no problems. The box with the knob next to the rad hides the switch and the relays.
