Same ones that he took out. Took him 20 mins to take out the diff and took me 30 mins to take out the trans. There is NO WAY it would take an experienced mechanic who does nothing but TR6's to take more than 8 hours to install - simply bolt on - these 2 items. NO WAY.Is this a re install of the original gearbox and diff, or have you bought them to fit into an untouched car?
You weren't really clear on the circumstances of the work and times were based on a standard R&R of the units. Given your "NO WAY" thought, would we now be correct in thinking that the interior is out of the car, tunnels removed, etceteras and so on? If that is the case and assuming that it is a non OD box, it will be less that 8 hours. The other consideration would be if you need the half shafts installed as well plus on an OD box, any set up and adjustments that must be made for the OD unit.Same ones that he took out. The OD would make no difference.
It simply has to be bolted up to the engine. All interior was removed. It is a straight bolt on job.
This might be hard to find - there are a few dedicated Triumph specialists (Macy's, etc.), but not enough Triumphs around to support many specialists. More than likely you'll find a quality mechanic who does all sorts of older cars - and may spend some time figuring out the nuances of each car before starting the job.an experienced mechanic who does nothing but TR6's
If you are so definite - I’m not sure why you asked the original question? The OD would make no difference. It is a new rebuilt trans with an OD. It simply has to be bolted up to the engine. All interior was removed. It is a straight bolt on job. It's just ridiculous to say that bolting up a diff and trans takes more than 8 hours.
