Installing Console

I bought a center console with original BL radio on ebay that had come off a car the same year as mine. I can see the holes where it is supposed to fit up to but the fit is extrememly tight and it doesn't look right, is there a trick to getting the console in? Does the dash supposed to be installed after the console?

Does your tranny tunnel have extra insulation under the carpet beyond the original stuff? It is a tight fit, and it will look crooked because of the shap of the dash. But it should not be a force fit.
