Hey all,
Quick question - when you install the rubber top seal
that installs on the aluminum piece attached to the
front top bow, does the P portion of the rubber seal
mount towards the front of the car or towards the back ?
Seal is of course flat but with the distinctive P shape
to it so not sure which way the P should reference. Hope
this makes sense - even I'm confused now !
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike:

Others may chime in, but my recent experience with installing my top this summer (after much research) is as follows.

I covered the aluminum piece with vinyl, screwed it to the header rail which had been previously covered with the cream
vinyl. The "P" shaped piece is then glued to the aluminum
piece with the flat side against the aluminum and the "P" facing forward, tight against the curved part. The gray Macgregor weather stripping "Furflex" is crimped along the "L" flange of the aluminum piece. If the top is adjusted right, it clamps down to the windshield top with a tight seal.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

I saw Jeff's car win that Gold in Vermont this summer--it is a beautiful car (GOOD JOB, Jeff). /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

My new top is on but the front seal is not just right over the windshield. I am thinking that if the aluminum piece with the seals in place were just dry fitted to the top and positioned over the windshield upper frame to get the proper orientation, and then mark the header where the aluminum piece should be screwed, and then attach the aluminum piece to the header, a better sealing top would be the result.

Jeff, my top seal doesn't completely seal all the way across my windshield. It seems to be too far rearward to completely close on the windshield. How did you make sure that all of that was correct when you did your top? I have tried placing shims under the rear of the top frame mounting points and that helped but that really changed the way the cantrails lined up above the doors. Any hints would be appreciated since it really gets wet during a rain.

Thanks,

George Haywood
