Installing a New Top

How much of a headache is this going to be? Is it better to just take it to a shop and have them install it? Will I need to replace all the hardware (header bar, snaps, etc) when I do the top?

If someone could give a brief explanation of what this entails it would be greatly appreciated.

Mahalos,
Joel

It is no real problem if ya got the tools. If ya don't have the tools to install the hardware stop here and pay someone(who has the tools) to do it.

Yup...don't have the tools. Looked in the Moss catalogue and they seem to be a bit steep just to do one top. Thanks for putting it bluntly.

I've already had a reccommendation for one shop in town to do the work...so I think I'll check them out first.

Tools?

Tools? Pop rivet gun? What am I missing?

BTW, I like to make them about 1/4" short when I attach the to the header rail so that they stay snug.

I was wondering what I was missing - installing a top is one of the easiest jobs on an MG

Heck I don't know! I don't have any tools to install those snaps and things. Knowing my luck I'd put a hole in the wrong place or something.

GB1, are you saying all I need is a pop-rivet gun? Is installing a top really that easy? I really wouldn't like to lose the use of the Sprite for however long it would take a shop to do the job. But...tops are spendy, want to get it right the first time.

So all I need is a pop-rivet gun? No need for that little snap installer tool?

Joel

Tops come with all the snaps already installed - at least all the ones I've ever bought!

Some budget tops don't come with the snaps. The tool is cheap, get one.

Better yet, spend that money on a better top!

Just buy a top that's got it all installed already.

Got it - & you've an answer.

I agree, get a decent top with the lift a dot's already installed... I misunderstood and thought you needed a regular snap tool - available at wal-mart for under $10.

Tony, didn't receive a PM from you.

Kenny - I misunderstood as well. I'll take your and Tony's advice on buying a top with them already installed.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment on the Alfa... Looks alot better in pictures, but it's paid for - hehehehehehe

Joel - how about now?
