installation of rear brakes

Has anyone done a write up on the installation of rear brake cylinders on a tr3, 4, or 6? I have a system, but I am curious if there is a proper method. Any new ideas would be helpful.

I just use the (written) procedure in the workshop manual. The diagrams are wrong, but the written procedure is right, and works well.

Assuming you are talking about Girling brakes, not the Lockheed brakes found on most TR3s.
 
Thanks Randall I always forget about that book. I was using the Haynes and found it vague. Yes the brakes are 10 inch girling without the hold downs, they have the felt. The felt is missing and I was thinking about using something different. Do you have any suggestions?

TRF has a replacement listed, P/N 7H4429, which should work. But IMO you could just smear some high quality brake grease on the shoe and the end of the post, and let it go at that. That's what I did on mine, and they seem to work fine.

The felt is there to retain some oil and keep the slides lubricated longer. they are not critical, but helpful. your "FLAPS" or Favorite Local Auto Parts Store should carry small tubs of caliper grease. Or sometimes they have little blister-packs of caliper grease at the counter (A little goes a long way). thick ,usually black, grease. excellent stuff. I use it on all pins and slides for front and rear.
