Hello all,

I am trying to keep my car looking stock, yet do some safety or convenience upgrades without showing the modifications.

Here's my latest venture.
Thought I'd share my efforts of installing a GPS unit in my BJ8.

Go here for a look see:

You'll also see another photos album showing the installation of the self powered computer speakers. They are pluged into the GPS unit via the headphone jack.

Cheers, Roger

Hey Roger, does the Nuvi receive satellite signals even with the antenna under the dash, or are you going to have to use an external receiver?

Hi Wana,
Unfortunately it does not receive a signal under the dash.
I bought the accessory external antenna and mounted it in/on the dash top. The dash cover goes over the antenna and hides it. The dash top is made of wood, so the signal passes through OK. There is a photo of that installation in my album.

Cheers, Roger

Roger,
When I click on the Yahoo link I get a message saying the file is not accessible.

I like the GPS unit... I wonder if it works in Hong Kong?

One question... with your powered speakers - how do you adjust the volume? Can you do it from the GPS console or do you have to reach under the dash to turn the dial on each powered speaker?

How does the sound quality compare with a traditional amp? I have a good mp3 radio in the BJ8 and sound quality is very good... but I don't like the bulky unit and I'd really like to go to the hideaway set up you have with the blanking plate and everything.

Hi Alan,
The volume is through the GPS unit.
Sound quality is just as good as a tradional car stereo.
Cheers, Roger

Hey Lin,
I did not know that. Should be up again.
