I realize this may be personal taste!
I am finally getting around to having the top and side curtains installed on my post 60,000 TR3A. My question is...
On the anchor plates for the curtains...seems I have seen older ones that are chrome...seems that the correct color is a dark grey? And I have seen some that are painted black.
I have black interior. It seems to me tha black would not show as much. I do a couple shows with the car...but this is
NOT a concourse car! Any input here?
Also...would REALLY appreciate any input re fitting the side curtains to this car. They have been rebuilt...but they belonged to another car prior. Thanks for the help. Gil

Gil - Piggott refers to several colors for those mounting plates "sockets".

On p. 43, he writes "close ups of the two types of sidescreen socket. The chromed wedge design remained in use until the early TR3A period, and often becomes badly pitted with age.

...

Dzus sockets were introduced at TS28825 ... these sockets could be chromed, painted metallic grey, or even left in the natural metal finish."

When I redid mine, it was already a weathered grey, so I refinished it in painted metallic grey.

Hope this helps.

Edit: here's a link to an earlier sidescreen discussion:
Sidescreen thread

and here's a link to a thread on a source for sidescreen trim seals:
seal sources

Note - see my last post in that thread. Todd sent samples *plus* instructions for fitting the seal materials to the sidecurtain frames. Now *that* is service.

I did mine the same as Tom, coincidently. Since you have a black interior I would be tempted to go with that. My interior is tan so decided that the neutral grey would go best.

Good luck, Tinkerman

My TS60000 series with black interior has the original metallic gray.

IMHO all the druz type plates were painted, altho the colors might have varied because they were probably outsourced in batches like a lot of TR Sport parts.
I talked to a gentleman a few years back who claimed to have been a "trimmer" for Standard-Triumph. He said the way they got the sidescreens to fit was
1. Install the top; 2. Attach the UNMOUNTED plates to the sidescreen arms;
3. (two-man job)One person on the outside sets the screen in place snug with the windshield & tucked in under the top. (he bends the arms if they need be for the proper contour) When he's satisfied with the fit, the inside person marks or attaches the sockets to the door.
I never doubted him and didn't wonder until later how they did the clearance hole for the druz. I ground down a couple of junk druz plugs so the plates would fit almost flush so my marks would be correct. I also filled the old screw holes before I upholstered the doors.
I painted my plates metallic grey, but after half dozen on & offs, the paint started getting chipped & scratched so I chrome plated them & never regretted it !! Hope this helps....

The plates on my early car (TS36131L) were chromed. The plates on my current car (TS64566L) are painted black.
When I fitted new sidescreens to my early car I did as Frank has suggested and clipped the plates onto the sidescreens and then positioned the sidescreen to match the windscreen frame, then marked and fixed the plates with the sidescreens on. If you are a factory worker this process takes two people, but if it is your car you can managed it single-handed!!
