Inline / transverse engine differences

I’m cross posting this in the Mini and Spridget forums.

What are the differences between the inline and transverse 1275 A series engine blocks?? I found an article that stated the only significant differences were in the center main cap, oil pickup and transmission / oil pan flange. Is it possible to use a mini block for an inline application if I had all the other parts?

Thanks in advance.

the rear main bearing/slinger/labrith seal is not present on the mini engine. They have a real seal back there. as such the rear of the cranks are way different. It will not work on a sprite.

You can have a Sprite engine machined to work in a Mini but not the otherway around.
You still need a Mini or Sprite crankshaft as the Mini uses a different flywheel setup and it has provisions for the drop gears where a Sprite has no drop gears.

whats a drop gear?

Mark, as the Mini gearbox essentially takes the place of a Sprite oil pan, the drop gear connects the crank to the tranny.
