Information on Zink Additive

Need a source for the zink additive that can be added to the crankcase oil. Have a newly rebuilt engine and am concerned about cam wear.

Try using 4 oz. of GM OES Assembly Lubricant. A 16 oz. bottle can be purchased at most GM dealers for about $8. I add 4 oz. everytime I change my oil.

Just read an article on the whole thing, but not sure how to add it to a reply.
The long and the short of it is that in the rebuild you should use a paste on the cam and the followers containing high amounts of molybdenum this lubricates the surface and allows the surfaces to become extremely polished in the very early stages of running in - within hours in fact. this continues for several thousand miles. The oil that you should use during this running in period should contain ZDDP - zinc-dialkyl-dithiophosphate. ( jeez that's a mouthfull) Use the higher viscosity oils - 15W-40 in synthetics like - mobil or Redline. 20W-50 in non synthetics like - Castrol GTX or Castrol High Mileage. there are others & change the oil after 500 miles and as you say, use a zinc additive in the oil for the first several thousand miles.

Trust that this is of some interest, though not quite answering your question.

Thanks for the replies. Will go to the local GM dealer and ask about the zink additive. Sure don't want to do something that would cause undo wear to the innards of my baby.
