My son emailed me. If any of you have some input on this, he'd appreciate it.

"My buddie Steve is looking at a Lotus Super Seven ... like Gary Hayes'. It's 2003 replica and the guy wants $12,000 ... possibly $10,000. Above average condition. Would you mind asking around and see if this is a good price? I know the originals go for over $30,000 ...right?"

I know nothing about Super Sevens except "YOWSER!" Thanks for the help!

Thanks

That is a really low, almost "too good to be true" price for a sorted, straight, running Seven. What's th' catch?

...I wanna see pix. 'specially one of Chuck trying to put it on!

I don't know all that info, but I'll try to get some pics and more information from Brian.

There are some really poor replicas of S7s out there. Places like Caterham were originally licensed thru Lotus to make them and they tend to be the closest to the originals. Some are near originals with the typical engines of the time-- Lotus twincams, Ford 105E, BMC 1275s, etc. A lot of the stranger ones use mazda rotaries (ROTUS) as well as even VW engines. It depends on what you are looking for...

My Bad: I *assumed* a Caterham here. Photos /data please? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Try the Caterham Company Site.

You might also try Kitcar magazine:

https://www.kitcar.co.uk/

and use their search facility for Lotus 7 replicas to see what's available in the UK. I suspect US offering are similar and some are sold in both countries too.

Just looked a little more at the Kitcars- they list ~20 replicas, but don't provide much beyond a photo and address; and even some of the companies with websites do not have them identified. But many UK based makers can be found by simply trying the common corporate address format: www.companyname.co.uk to see what turns up and it works more often than not....

Birkin replica and Ford Z-Tec engine (race-modified...my son thinks)

I'd expect $20K+ as an average price for a well assembled, used one.
