Inexpensive tires...

hi... in light of my low speed wobble and the fact that my tires are well worn... I believe I'm in the market to get some new rubber to put on my rims. I hate sounding "cheap" when it comes to my car, but I'm planning on replacing the rims within the next year or so. So, do any of you have any suggestions for some inexpensive tires? I thought the Futura's i found on Pepboy's website seemed a descent deal at $35/tire. I'm wanting 185/70 14 for the size. Anyone have any experience with these tires? are they good... bad?

Thanks for any info you guys can provide...

The Dunlops I got at Sam's Club were about that much. MG... Dunlops! Good choice!

Maybe look at Kuhmo's on tirerack?

I put the Pep Boy's tires on one of my cars that I used in town and some occasional freeway driving with no problems.
I put about 8,000 miles on them before I took the car to the wrecking yard and they still had a lot of tread left.

My Sears had a sale. I got 5 BFGoodrich Touring tires for $19.95 a piece, Plus 10% off using their credit card. They didn't make much off me that day!

When I got my B it came with a mismatched set of tires 175/70-14 (Sears) in the rear & some 185/70-14's from Pep Boys in the front. Besides the annoying size differents both where terrible tires - real hard & uncomfortalbe.

I switched real quickly to some cheap no-name tires on my B I got at Winston tires (no longer in business). Maybe too quickly it seems - While they matched, they too were cheap and didn't have a very good ride. I just didn't know it until I drove some frind's cars with better tires. Anyway they hand an agressive tread pattern and were kind of sticky, but they I made a mistake getting 195/70s - way too tall of a tire.

I now some really nice Bridgstones 195/60's that I picked up at Cosco. Much better tire. Sure I paid a little more about $70 each, but they have a really comfortable ride and sticky!

195/60 15s are in my long term plan. I just need some inexpensive tires to use in the interim. The "good" wheels and tires come in after i get the rest of the running gear squared away.

I bought a set of Kumho's from tirerack for the old Buick my mom used to drive and am going to put a set on one of the Jeeps too...about $40 each from www.tirerack.com /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cowboy.gif

Just a word to the wise when buying Kumho...they run small, so jump up one size /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Since it's a holiday weekend, check the Sunday newspaper sale ads for tires. There are, at least in my area, specials starting at $9.99 per tire, (and guess what they are usually the size that fits our little LBC's!). For another $5.00 per tire you can even get them mounted and ballanced! PS They are usually offered by Firestone if you can live with that - generally good for 30K miles!

that i certianly can live with!!

Rebuilt most of my front suspension today (new bushes and cross-member pads). While I had the tires off I took the time to look at them closely. They definitely need replacing. The right front has developed an unsightly bulge... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
