...and I wanna see Danica do th' deed. The kid's got th' stuff. Castroneves would be my second "wish list" first place...

Should be interesting no matter who crosses first, tho.

Looks like there'll be a start. Weather seems to be holding.

EDIT: Whoa!! Sombody gave a goose to th' soprano!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

"Rain Red"... 'smits declares: "This wouldn't be an ISSUE in Formula-1!"

mehheh.

Hello Dr E,

do you ever watch Moto Grand Prix?, or any other European motor cycle racing. The water has to be streaming across the track for them to stop racing. (Aquaplaning on two wheels is not fun!)

This only seems to be an issue with the "my car will only make left hand turns crowd". Maybe Firestone can't make a rain tire that works. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif

Oval racing at 200+ mph is not too conducive to rain...even with rain tires (which I don't believe that they use anyway).

The IRL or CART series, etc should not be compared to Formula One.

Rick,

how fast do your think Formula One cars travel at?

Shouldn't have too much trouble with standing water on a banked track either.

Shhh, Alec!!!

You'll upset Bernie's ~US domestic~ competition! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

...and if any a' y'all Left Turn folks wanna SEE some *real* WET talent, find Ayrton Senna's first Monaco in a Lotus. Unparalleled, IMO.

I'm not that naive. I follow F1 and have attended each of the USGP at Indy.

There is no significant tread on the tires used for the Indy 500...nor are there rain tires available.

The banking at the Brickyard is also minimal.

Track Length: 2.5 mile oval
Banking in Corners: 9°
Banking on Straights: None
Length of Frontstretch: 3,300 feet
Length of Backstretch: 3,300 feet
Length of Short Straightaways: 660 feet ea.

Check the quote for this year's winner, Dario Franchitti, regarding the "aqua planing" (his term...we use hydroplaning here in the States) at even 20mph on the last lap.

Cheers!
