Indy 500?

Does anyone else remember listening to Chris Economacki on Memorial Day narrating the Indy 500? I used to ~love~ it. Big ol' 4 banger Offys and usually one or two hopefuls with something else under the hood.

I can remember listening to it at Candy Poole's place back in the sixties when Lotus first entered. Candy was certain the rear-engined cars would revolutionize the race and I – knowing far more than my elders at the time – figured that non-US entries would just be fringe elements as they'd always been.

This afternoon I remembered that it'll be run this weekend and found it hard to find any info on it, even on the Speed channel website. For the past few years I've watched the opening ceremonies and the start and that's about it. I can't name a single driver or car this year.

Oh well....

Is anyone planning to watch it?

(It's running Sunday. Coverage starts about noon EDT)

I go to the race every year.

Promises to be a good race...and NO RAIN for a change!

I go every year, too. When the IRL baloney started up in '96 it became easy to upgrade tickets, and now we sit on the front straight about 50 yds up from the yard of bricks.

IRL is getting tough to follow this year because the Versus TV network bought all the races except Indy, which is on ABC as usual. Unless you get Versus, which a lot of people don't, there's nothing to watch but NASCAR. :wall: :madder:

Same goes for NHL hockey now. :madder: :madder: :wall: :madder: :madder:

Ditto!

This has to be the greatest single motor-racing weekend of the year with F1, Indy and NASCAR all on the same day! This year at least, there will be no (or very little) overlapping of the coverage! I have my favorite series, which starts off the day for me, but, honestly, I just love to watch racing!!

Hey, the older we get, the harder it is to remember names!! But, I never forget an, er, um, FACE (that's it!!).

Well, I guess as Versus adds content, more cable systems will add Versus to their channels. I am getting it already, but have not watched their IRL coverage yet. I just have not gotten back into the Indy cars since the IRL split...

I'll probably watch Indy today, but let's just say it isn't what it once was.

I remember a neighbor took me to watch Johnny Rutherford win it. I grew up in Long Beach and we went to the Anaheim Convention Center and it was on pay per view on a huge screen. Cool times. It was 68 or 69.

Now it is different.

ABC knows how to do it, but Fox always adds something, like the animated gopher, or is that Tony Stewart, in NASCAR presentations.

Cheers, and Happy Memorial Day to all...

Remember what it's all about,

Cheers,

Steve

I hate Fox's NASCAR broadcasts. Just full of flashy garbage. I wish ABC or someone would pick it up instead.

I caught a chunk of Indy this year-I had a previous commitment so had to head out.

Ya got the wrong photo of Danica, dude....

[Keep the pictures in line with this being a family board. I know she is a very attractive young lady, but please don't post the sexy photos here -- Basil]

I want th' one of her at 200MPH with her eyes on fire!!!

Alright, alright. If you don't like Danica, try Angelle Sampey, drag bike queen from Houma, LA. She looks good wrapped around a drag bike. And a local girl at that.

It was a great race - and NO RAIN! (And...I won the pool this year with Castroneves taking first!)

Our seats are in the Tower Terrace behind the pits. This year, John Andretti's pit was immediately in front of us, and Sarah Fisher's pit was the next one up. (Sarah's grandfather, Jim, drives an MGB V8 conversion.)

Pictured is a "merging" of two sectors of the sport (NASCAR and Open Wheel) - when The King, Richard Petty, spent some time in Andretti's pit.

Please *insert diety of preference here* don't let Danica be swayed to NASCAR!

...the lady needs to go back to Europe. If for nothing more than to straighten out th' F-1 "boyz". They NEED a season of change. A shaking up.

"American Woman..."

Not th' song. Th' Real Thing.

If she runs her career the way she ran that race yesterday, she's gonna fix a LOT of things IMO. It'll take two more domestic seasons, max. Then she's a LOCK for a seat in a... umm... err... a 'strong' F-1 team's car. Some paper towel brand names come to mind.

And a COUPLE of ironic "Michael" first names.

She's got th' ~stuff~. Really. I see Ayrton stuff. Th' kid ain't hit her stride yet.
