When I first started dating my wife, my father-in-law had owned over 50 cars in his life (and 30 at one time in the 70s) yet had only owned one foreign car ever -- an '86 Toyota Supra.

When I bought my first Triumph, he said "why would you want a little slow British car -- they never work?"

My influence on him:
He bought an S-Type 4.0 in 2000.

And last night he bought a '73 E-Type Series III Coupe. It was an impulse purchase. 22,000 original miles, very well restored, so I'm told (haven't seen it yet.) It's an automatic car. I believe it has wire wheels. It is the mustard yellow color -- (I want to say it was called "green sand") and tan interior.

The only thing that scares me is 22K miles on a V12 might indicate it never ran well -- or the guy drove with the odometer disconnected /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I've never tried driving a Series III car. Being 6'4", I've never fit in E-Types, but I've always been attracted to the Series I and 1.5 cars.

Well done, I'm glad to see you are having such a positive influence!! The mustard yellow is indeed Greensand, my XJ-12 was that colour, only with the olive green leather. Sounds like he found himself a nice car, now you'll have to go play in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sam,
Convince him to give it to you.
Since you can't fit in it, you can give it to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
I'll be happy to worry about that "underrun" engine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
