These were first designed as "Streamliner Vans" in the 1930s, and toured the USA showing scientific advances, and "views of the future". They were re-designed in the 1940s and early 1950s. Here's a pre-war model, with the original "bubble" canopy:

That would make such a cool transporter. They had a restored one at the Good Guys show in upstate New York a two years ago, classic styling.
