Ok, I'll admit it, this was an impulse purchase. I was at Costco yesterday to pick up a few supplies when I happened to see they had a mini drone called the HOVERair Pro Max on sale. I'd thought about getting a small drone in the past just to play around with, but when I saw this sale ($300 off the normal price) I just impulsively grabbed one of those cards and put it in my cart. At Costco they don't put high value items out on the floor, they use cards as placeholders, then, once you buy it, you take your receipt to customer service and they retrieve the item for you. Turns out, when I bought it, they only had three left. The guy said they were "flying off the shelves," no pun intended.
It's a very small drone that shoots 4k and even 8k video (or 1080P if you prefer). You can fly it manually with (optional) joystick, or you can set it in any of about 12 auto-fly modes.
Hover: Will hover in place and camera will rotate to follow subject to keep them (you) in frame at all times
Zoom Out: Flying camera will lock onto the subject and then fly upward and away, capturing expanding views from a distance
Orbit: The camera continuously follows the subject while circling around them for dynamic shots
Follow: The camera locks onto the subject and follows (from behind)
Bird's Eye: The camera will ascend to a higher altitude and capture wide landscapes from a top-down, classic aerial perspectivbe
Side Track: The camera locks onto the subject and maintains a position beside them while following their movements.
Dolly Track: The camera locks onto the subject from in front of them, and follows their movement from the front
Ski Mode: Optimized for ski scenes (I wonder if this could be used for other situations like bike races, etc)?
Because this drone weighs less than 250g, I don't need to get it registered, but I did need to take a course in Drone use and safety and pass a three part quiz.
