I was watching the Ikea Fix This Kitchen on the TV this morning, and the promo caught my eye as being a bit unusual.

So, where do you get left-handed wood screws??

Lefty-tighty

WOW!!! I'm impressed!!!

...by yet another example of ~art directors~ knowin' EVERYTHING*. Ya know darn well the shot was set up to run on the left third of the screen, then some artsy guy decided his or her scent was missin' from the spot.

So they pee'd on it.

Reminds me of the DIY ad where two people clink hammers like a high-five... and no eye protection.

"*no actual craftsmen were consulted for the recording of this clip."

 :madder: :wall:

So what's worse, that the screw threads backwards, or that a goodly percentage of the US population wouldn't notice even if you pointed it out?

Geez, Drew!!! Mebbe we'd notice?!? Or some who have actually DONE work take exception?

Esthetics (to some) seem to rule over reality in this case. It may be a small point, but germain to those who've actually DONE stuff.

"Art" has befuddl'd the masses, IMO.

There was a book in the '60's.... "Subliminal Advertizing" IIRC. We're hitting a point where sound bites and YouTube hold sway over reason.

...I'll live to regret that...

We notice -- I've done work with my hands as well -- but lots won't. Hand them a screw driver and a screw and they'd have to try a couple times to make it work.

Folks don't seem as interested in going deep on things anymore. I still hold that the pendulum swings, though, and that folks will get back into it again.

Just showed my wife - she saw it instantly - think I will keep that woman!

My bad...

THIS is an old song with a newer play....

"I feel like some old engine"... this guy is a childhood hero.

They sell them in Argentina. Ever seen their toilets flush?

" Ya know, It's a little know fact that wood screws in South America have left handed threads due to the rotational direction of the earth south of the Equator. This is be able to resist hurricane winds that spin the other direction down there too."
